Creating Room Counselling and Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy

Art Psychotherapy

Art therapy is a form of psychotherapy that uses visual and creative expression to help individuals explore feelings, gain insight, reduce distress, build coping skills, and enhance overall well-being. The art-making process becomes both a communication tool and a therapeutic intervention, especially when words alone are difficult or limiting.

If you’re here, you’ve already done one of the hardest things — you’ve decided that you wanna do the work! Wicked. Now, you might be thinking that all that talking seems pretty intimidating, and to that I say — I bet you’ve got a juicy story to tell, and I wanna hear it.

Think about a movie or a play — what character are you? Figuring out who you are and how you behave is a big part of being in relationships — because those things affect other people. What role do you play, and how do your feelings and actions work to move the story forward? Look around and see the people who are your helpers, your cheerleaders, and your villains.

I ask you to consider what it would be like to be uncomfortable in a moment — to do or say the hard thing — and this is why we call therapy work! This is why your therapist isn’t your friend. They have to be able to name the hard thing. They have to be able to show you your growth edges — those moments where you do the hard thing, and you lean into the resistance to it, instead of running away from it. That’s where growth comes from!

Yes, these things are hard — but they don’t have to suck. It’s all about relationships — to yourself, to your friends and family, to your partner(s). What brings you joy? Where are your pleasures in life? What makes you feel intimate in your relationships? Those questions add some complex dynamics. Sex. Intimacy. Pleasure. Those are part of your lived experience too! So why can’t you use art to explore them?

The mashing together of art therapy and sex therapy gives us another language to explore your role in the story. It helps you find the juicy bits! The fun stuff.

So — what story are we gonna start with? Looking forward to it. Heidi

Cheers, Heidi

Hi, I’m Becca.

If you’re here, you might feel like you’re stuck in the mud of life— caught between feeling like you’re “too much” or “not enough,”. Whether you’re struggling in in your relationships, navigating life transitions, facing loss, or working through big feelings like fear, anger, and shame, I’m here to meet you where you are.

That’s where I come in. For me, being a therapist means sitting in the mud with you, wading into the messiness together, and working with you towards a place where you can begin to listen to and trust yourself.

I love working with people from all walks of life and have a special passion for supporting folks in the queer/2SLGBTQIA+ community and neurodivergent individuals. I bring curiosity, non-judgement, compassion, and at times a dash of humor as we lean in and gently untangle some of those uncomfortable places that can feel too heavy to work through on your own.

So, if you find yourself at least knee-deep in the mud of life, let’s talk. Together, we’ll find a way to move forward

Hey, I’m Shirley!

I’m a Registered Psychotherapy (Qualifying) who primarily uses art therapy.

As a first generation immigrant coming to Canada at a young age, I understand the struggle to finding belonging. Especially in today’s world where surviving is a struggle, it can feel utterly overwhelming and isolating. This is amplified if you need to navigate new environments with multiple identities and roles between personal and professional lives.

Art is a universal way for us to communicate without words, and transcends cultural differences. If you are someone that struggles with talking about your emotions and needs, but wants to be validated and heard I would love for us to explore ways of communication that works best for you! You don’t need any previous experience or be “good” at art to do art therapy.

Finding belong and community is important, and so is getting support to navigate through burnout, anxiety, and stress. If you’re reading any of this and thinking, “Hey, that sounds like me!”, then book a 15-minute consultation to see if I’m the right fit for you. I’m looking forward to it!
